A Traditional Sun Room Addition
The Aaron Dyott House c. 1850
This classic 19th century residence has undergone several renovations and additions through its long history. An existing Powder Room and Laundry Area at the rear of the house were reconfigured to create a convenient transitional space leading to the home’s latest addition of a Sunroom. This new space, with its cathedral ceiling and over a dozen windows, is flooded with natural light all day long and provides a private pleasant space for the homeowners to relax and enjoy their garden view all year round. Historic district requirements guided the exterior design details to coordinate with existing materials and finishes to create a sympathetic addition to this significant historic home.
A New Fireplace
This 19th century home in one of the area’s oldest historic districts had undergone numerous changes through the years; the most significant being the conversion of its second floor into an apartment with a separate ground level entrance. In the early 2000’s the new owners restored their second story for private use, gained two new bedrooms and a modern bathroom. The separate entry was eliminated and a reconfigured stairway was built rising from the home’s cozy Library/Foyer on the first floor. A remodeled Master Bedroom suite on the first floor and renovated Kitchen and Great Room are among the most recent improvements. The most visible transformation on the home’s exterior is the addition of new brick chimney venting a traditional wood burning fireplace in the Great Room. Two new floor length double hung windows flank the fireplace providing natural light and a view to the sunny private patio at the rear of the home.
A Multi-Purpose Addition
The Levin Blades House c. 1834;1868
This charming 19th century home in the heart of St. Michaels had been recently renovated when it was purchased by new homeowners in 2009. In order to provide additional casual living space for their large extended family, a New Great Room was added to the rear of the home. The new space features a complete new full bath and large storage closet all of which can be converted to a full fledged ground floor Master Suite if future needs require. French doors are conveniently located to provide access from the New Great Room to a new spacious Screened Porch Addition with a dramatic cathedral ceiling. The flow from interior to exterior space provides a pleasant connection to their private and tranquil backyard garden.
